The first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper coach has arrived in India and was unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at BEML’s facility in Bagaluru.
According to information this new coach will undergo a test run for about 10 days before moving on to further track testing. If the results are satisfactory, the train is expected to begin operations for the general public within the next three months.
The Vande Bharat sleeper coach is reported to be significantly more advanced than the Rajdhani Express and other models, offering passengers a seamless and comfortable long-distance travel experience.
The sleeper variant is designed to have a higher average speed than the Rajdhani Express, thanks to its faster acceleration and deceleration. Once operational, the train is expected to run at an average speed of 160 km/h, with testing speeds reaching up to 180 km/h.
The Vande Bharat sleeper coach will feature multiple coaches, including 4 AC 2-tier coaches (188 berths), 11 AC 3-tier coaches (611 berths), and 1 AC First Class coach (24 berths).
In terms of amenities, the new train is equipped with world-class features such as GFRP panels, sensor-based interiors, automatic exterior passenger doors, ergonomically designed odor-free toilet systems, communication doors, a spacious luggage room, and more.
