Speaking at the MED Mediterranean Dialogues Conference in Rome, EAM S Jaishankar identified connectivity as the cornerstone of future India-Mediterranean relations. He highlighted the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) as a transformative project.
“Connectivity is the new element shaping global ties,” Jaishankar stated, citing progress in collaboration with the UAE and Saudi Arabia despite ongoing challenges in the Middle East.
On the sidelines of the conference, Jaishankar engaged in discussions with key counterparts:
Addressing the escalating conflict in West Asia, Jaishankar strongly condemned terrorism and hostage-taking while calling for adherence to international humanitarian law.
“India unequivocally condemns terrorism and large-scale civilian casualties. A ceasefire is essential, and international humanitarian law must be upheld,” he stressed.
He also highlighted India’s proactive role in mediating communication between Israel and Iran to advocate restraint and resolve conflicts.
Jaishankar emphasized the significance of the I2U2 grouping, comprising India, Israel, the UAE, and the US, which he predicted will play a larger role in the region’s stability and development.
