India makes history after winning much-coveted Oscar for Naatu Naatu, Elephant Whisperers

India created a historic moment at the 95th Academy Awards on Monday morning (India Time) as the nation won its first ever Academy Award in the category of “best original song for SSS Rajamouli’s directed movie RRR.

Notably, RRR won the Oscar in the category of Best Original Song for “Naatu Naatu”. During the Academy Awards, actress Deepika Padukone took to the stage as she introduced the musical performance by Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj.

The actress was revealed as one of the presenters in the first round of announcements. Apart from Deepika, other presenters at the Oscars 2023 include Halle Berry, John Travolta, Harrison Ford, and others.

Deepika became the third Indian to attend the event after Persis Khambatta and Priyanka Chopra, which was held at the Dolby Theatres in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Naatu Naatu Performance at Oscars

The actress opened the performance as she expressed that “Do you know Naatu? Because if you don’t, then you are about to.” After which, Indian reality TV star and American dancer Lauren Gottlieb took over the stage.

Both musicians, Kala Bhairav and Rahul Sipligunj, were seen dressed in traditional attire, Black Kurta and Dhoti. The two sent chills down everyone’s spine as they sang the electrifying global smash hit song live on the stage of the 95th Academy Awards.

As the performance was ended with a bang, they were greeted by a Standing Ovation from everyone sitting in the audience making the moment truly historic.

The show is hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel. Let us remind you, Naatu Naatu was nominated in the Best Original Song category. Ever since the nomination was declared, everyone has been eagerly awaiting the award ceremony.

On Monday morning, 13 March, everyone’s prayers seemed to work as Naatu Naatu won the Oscars. Now, social media platforms are flooded with congratulatory messages from everyone, from netizens to politicians to Hollywood actors, who are celebrating this biggest moment.

Meanwhile, The Elephant Whisperers, a short film, that was nominated in the Best Documentary Short Category, has bagged its Academy Award. It’s India’s first win in this category. The award was received by director Kartiki Gonsalves and producer Guneet Monga.

Earlier, Naatu Naatu bagged its Golden Globe Award in January, 2023.
