India has formally addressed Italy regarding the death of Satnam Singh, an Indian national, urging swift action against those responsible. Muktesh Pardeshi, Secretary of the Consular Passport and Visa Division and Overseas Indian Affairs at the Ministry of External Affairs, conveyed India’s deep concern to Luigi Maria Vignali, Director General for Migratory Policies and Italians Abroad in the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pardeshi emphasized the need for prompt measures during their discussions.

The Indian Embassy in Italy has been actively engaged in providing support to Satnam Singh’s family, including consular assistance and arrangements for repatriating his mortal remains to India. “@SecretaryCPVOIA Muktesh Pardeshi conveyed to @LuigiVignali Italian DG our deep concern about death of Satnam Singh & called for prompt action against those responsible. Embassy is in contact with family of Satnam Singh for consular help & transportation of mortal remains @MEAIndia,” the embassy posted on X.

Satnam Singh tragically lost his life following an accident, as reported by the Flai CGIL trade union. The incident occurred while he was working on a farm and resulted in the severing of his arm. Shockingly, instead of receiving assistance from his employer, Singh was abandoned near his home, described by the union as being discarded “like a bag of rubbish.”

Last week, the Indian Embassy in Italy had already initiated efforts to coordinate with local authorities and establish contact with Singh’s family to offer necessary consular support. They stated, “The Embassy is aware of the very unfortunate demise of an Indian national in Latina, Italy. We are in contact with the local authorities. Efforts are underway to contact the family and provide consular assistance.” These actions underscore India’s commitment to ensuring justice and support for its citizens abroad in times of distress and tragedy.
