Independence Day rehearsal 2024: Delhi traffic advisory, routes to avoid

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory for Tuesday in light of the dress rehearsal ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The advisory announces the closure of several key roads and provides alternative routes for commuters. According to the notice, numerous roads will be closed from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m., and only vehicles with specific labels will be allowed on these routes.

In response to the restrictions, the police have urged the public and motorists to remain patient, adhere to traffic rules, maintain road discipline, and follow the instructions of traffic personnel stationed at various intersections.

The affected roads include Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail, Lothian Road from GPO to Chatta Rail, SP Mukherjee Marg from HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort, Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg, Esplanade Road and its link road to Netaji Subhash Marg, Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT, and Outer Ring Road from ISBT to the IP flyover (Salimgarh bypass). Additionally, the Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge will be closed.

For vehicles without parking labels, the Delhi Traffic Police advises avoiding routes such as C-Hexagon India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A Point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, JL Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta, ISBT Kashmiri Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmiri Gate via Salimgarh bypass.

Regarding buses, all local city buses, including DTC, will be restricted from using Ring Road between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Ring Road, NH-24, NH ‘T’-point (Nizamuddin Khatta) from midnight Tuesday to 11 a.m. Buses from Ghaziabad to Delhi should use Bhopura Chungi Road via Mohan Nagar to Wazirabad Road and proceed towards Chandgi Ram Akhara, then U-turn at ISBT to enter ISBT. Buses from Dhaulakuan will be redirected on Ring Road to Punjabi Bagh, Azad Pur, Akhara Chandgi Ram, U-turn at ISBT to enter ISBT Kashmere Gate. Buses between ISBT and Faridabad (Badarpur) will either terminate at Sarai Kale Khan or be redirected on Ring Road via Dhaulakuan Punjabi Bagh, Azad Pur, Akhara Chandgi Ram, U-turn at ISBT to enter ISBT. Buses bound for Loni Border will proceed via Wazirabad Bridge, and those bound for Ghaziabad will go via ISBT Bridge. Buses usually terminating at Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Main Railway Station will be curtailed or rerouted, according to the advisory.

It further noted that no buses will be allowed to make a U-turn at the northern loop of Ring Road near Budh Vihar (Monastery) and will instead be diverted towards Wazirabad to cross the Yamuna or take a U-turn from Chandgi Ram Akhara to loop ISBT flyover and head towards Shastri Park. Buses bound for Dhaula Kuan will take Boulevard Road, Rani Jhansi Road, Link Road, and Upper Ridge Road (Vande Matram Marg). Normal bus services will be restored after 11 a.m.
