Chandigarh recently hosted a roundtable conference focused on fostering inclusivity and bridging the gap between the LGBTQIA+ community and institutions, with support from the British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh. Organized by Rubaroo, a Hyderabad-based NGO specializing in social inclusion, the conference brought together diverse stakeholders committed to advancing LGBTQIA+ rights. Amandeep Grewal, Deputy Head of Mission, British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh, emphasized the UK Government’s commitment to creating societies where safety, opportunity, and respect are universal, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Grewal acknowledged the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community, including discrimination and exclusion. The conference provided a platform for LGBTQIA+ activists, community members, academics, advocates, and civil society representatives to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration. Participants shared insights, experiences, and innovative ideas to address challenges hindering LGBTQIA+ inclusivity and advancing community rights. Collective action and collabo- ration were highlighted as crucial for creating an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
