SC requests a response from Rajasthan and MP prior to elections

The distribution of money and other freebies at the expense of the taxpayers was allegedly the subject of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), for which the Supreme Court on Friday served notice on the Centre, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Election Commission of India. A four-week response period was requested from the Center, States, and poll panel by a bench consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala, and Justices Manoj Mishra. A social worker named Bhattulal Jain filed a PIL, and the supreme court was hearing it when it was ordered to be marked with a pending plea on the matter. A comprehensive set of rules was sought in the PIL to prevent political parties from giving away money and other freebies at the expense of taxpayers.
