Explosion in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba Leaves Three Injured, Suspected Mortar Shell Blast

Three individuals, including two women, sustained injuries in an unexplained explosion in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The incident occurred around 8:15pm while some farmers were burning crop residue in a field in Khara Madhana village.

Following the blast, the three injured individuals were promptly taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu. Reportedly, two of them are in critical condition.

The injured parties have been identified as Rameet Singh (66), Simro Devi (76), and Suriya Bibi (58), all residents of the Samba district.

Police suspect that a corroded mortar shell, left in the field, detonated when the farmers ignited their fields as part of their agricultural practices.

Authorities, along with forensic experts, have recovered a fragment of the corroded mortar shell.

Further information is awaited.
