Aditya-L1 to be launched on September 2, announces ISRO

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) announced on Monday that India’s first space-based observatory to study the Sun will launch on Saturday, September 2 at 11.50 a.m. from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

The Aditya-L1 mission will be launched by ISRO’s PSLV XL rocket from Sriharikota’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR (SDSC-SHAR). The spacecraft will first be placed in a Low Earth Orbit. Following that, the orbit will be made more elliptical, and the spacecraft will be propelled using onboard propulsion towards the Lagrange point (L1).

As it approaches L1, the spacecraft will leave the Earth’s gravitational Sphere of Influence (SOI). After leaving SOI, the cruise phase will begin, and the spacecraft will be injected into a huge halo orbit around L1.

Aditya-L1’s entire trip time from launch to L1 would be around four months. ISRO, in addition to revealing the launch date and time, allowed everyone to view the historic event live.
