Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently serving his prison sentence in Adiala Jail, is at the center of a dispute over his treatment behind bars. Despite PTI’s claims of mistreatment, including allegations of restricted electricity, lack of access to news, and limited time outside his cell, jail authorities refute these assertions, insisting that Khan receives proper meals, regular medical checks, and all B-Class jail privileges.
PTI Claims Imran Khan “Ill-treated” in Jail
PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan has expressed concerns about Khan’s prison conditions, accusing jail authorities of cutting off electricity for five days, denying him newspapers and TV access for two weeks, and limiting his time outside the cell to just two and a half hours a day. He also claimed that Khan had been kept in solitary confinement in a small cell, violating his constitutional and legal rights.
Gohar further stated that Khan was not informed about the arrest of his sisters and criticized the limited time allowed for meetings, noting that their last visit lasted only 45 minutes.
Jail Authorities Deny PTI’s Allegations
Adiala Jail authorities rejected the claims, emphasizing that Khan is being treated in accordance with B-Class jail rules, which include all entitled amenities. According to the authorities, Khan enjoys uninterrupted electricity, meals prepared by a professional cook, and ample exercise time.
Imran Khan’s Daily Meals
Contrary to PTI’s allegations, jail officials detailed Khan’s daily meals, which are prepared according to his preferences. His breakfast includes coffee, chia seeds, beetroot juice, yogurt, chapati, biscuits, and dates. Lunch consists of traditional curry, local chicken, chapati, salad, green tea, and mutton, while dinner features porridge, coconut, coconut water, and grapes.
Health and Well-being
Jail authorities assured that Imran Khan’s health is regularly monitored, with medical examinations conducted three times a day. A recent health check-up by doctors from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) confirmed Khan is healthy and active. They also refuted claims of isolation, stating that Khan has been receiving newspapers daily and exercises for two hours each day.
The authorities emphasized that Khan’s security and living conditions are in line with B-Class jail standards.
