Gujarat witnessed heavy rain for the second consecutive day, with Kalyanpur taluka in Devbhumi Dwarka district recording 174 millimetres of rain in a 12-hour period ending at 6 pm, according to news agency PTI. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for several districts in Gujarat till Tuesday, June 2, forecasting extremely heavy showers in areas including Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka, and Kutch.
The weather department predicts continued heavy to very heavy rain across various regions in Gujarat until July 3, citing the influence of two cyclonic circulations over northern and southern parts of the state.
In contrast, Delhi remains on an “orange” alert from July 2 to July 3, with forecasts of moderate to heavy rain expected during this period. Despite the alert on Monday, Delhi did not record any rainfall.
Meanwhile, in Assam, the flood situation worsened with over 6.44 lakh people affected across 19 districts. The Brahmaputra river has surpassed its highest flood level at Nematighat in Jorhat district, prompting serious concerns. Eight rivers in Assam are flowing above the danger mark, inundating several cities and causing significant distress.

In response to the flood situation in Kalibor, authorities have imposed speed restrictions on vehicles to mitigate risks to marooned animals and potential accidents due to flooded roads.
Looking ahead, IMD’s latest weather forecast anticipates widespread rainfall over Northwest and Central India, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, and other regions from July 1 to July 5.
Additionally, coastal areas of Karnataka and northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the coming days, as per IMD’s predictions.
