In an exclusive conversation with The Daily Guardian, actor Rashmi Desai opens up about paving her way to becoming one of the top actresses on Indian television, dealing with trolls, future projects and much more.

Q: You have been in the industry for over 15 years. What has the journey been like?

A: I’ve seen a lot of change, and my journey has been really good. I’m passionate about my work, and that has always brought me good luck and good projects.

Q: When you are in the public eye, you are also subjected to a lot of criticism. How do you deal with trolls? Especially when comments are made about your weight and personal life.

A: I feel beautiful, so I know I›m not going to be affected by trolls or any negative comments about myself and my body. It›s on you how you deal with such things, and I choose to ignore them. I›m confident about my talent and hard work. Such criticism will not deter me in any way.

Q: How easy or difficult do you think it is for someone without any connections to make it big in the industry?

A: It depends on what opportunities come your way and how you make the most of them. Talent will get recognition even if a brand name isn’t attached to it, but sometimes a good break helps you to make your abilities known.

Q: Do you think it has become even more important now for actors to have a presence on social media to stay relevant?

A: Yes, I do feel that social media helps in gaining the audience’s love and trust in a more personal way because people get to see the actors in their everyday lives rather than just on the screen.

Q: How do you deal with comparisons with your contemporaries? Does it bother you?

A: Not really. Everyone is unique in their acting and style and no comparisons should be made in the first place, but if they do take place, the best thing to do is smile and move on, I guess.

Q: Amid all the noise, how do you maintain your sanity?

A: I have discovered that droning out the outside noise and focusing on your inner strength is the best way to maintain your sanity.

Q: You have done several serials and reality shows. What’s next for you?

A: A lot of things are brewing. Once the right time comes, I’ll surely announce it.
