IIM Sambalpur Marks 10th Foundation Day, Unveils AI-Driven Classroom Initiative

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur celebrated its 10th Foundation Day by announcing a major initiative to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its classrooms, which could revolutionize the learning experience for students.

In a press release, the institute emphasized its continued commitment to innovation, inclusiveness, and integrity as it pushes the boundaries of management education. The event, held on campus, featured Uday A Kaole, Chairman and Managing Director of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), as the chief guest. Dr. Anurag Batra and Nishita Baliarsingh, Co-founder and CEO of Nexus Power, delivered keynote addresses.

Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, announced that AI would soon be implemented in classrooms to enhance the learning process. The initiative aims to shift the teacher’s role from traditional instruction to encouraging creativity and engagement among students. “This initiative will redefine how management education is imparted and how students approach learning,” said Prof. Jaiswal.

Reflecting on the institute’s progress, Prof. Jaiswal expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their support. He also highlighted the significant growth of IIM Sambalpur, which started in 2015 with 49 MBA students and has now expanded to 320 students, 75% of whom are female. “IIM Sambalpur has established world-class infrastructure, and we are on the path to onboarding over 60 startups under our incubation centre while fostering international collaborations,” Prof. Jaiswal added.

As part of the national initiative for Viksit Bharat, Prof. Jaiswal also revealed plans to host a Women’s Empowerment Summit in February 2025, establish three new Centres of Excellence this year, expand the MBA program, and pursue international accreditations.

Chief Guest Uday Kaole commended IIM Sambalpur, describing it as “the most vibrant and talked-about IIM.” He congratulated Prof. Jaiswal for his leadership and the institute’s impressive accomplishments. “IIM Sambalpur has created a space for great talent, and MCL looks forward to collaborating with the institute to harness the potential of its students,” Kaole said.

Nishita Baliarsingh, CEO of Nexus Power, encouraged students to remain consistent and true to themselves, while Anindya Ghosh from IBM stressed the importance of focused effort, passion for work, and early financial planning.

Coinciding with the Foundation Day celebration, IIM Sambalpur also launched the second edition of the Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship (IDE) Bootcamp, part of a nationwide initiative championed by PM Modi. Running from September 23-27, 2024, the Bootcamp aims to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among student innovators, with more than 3,000 students and innovation ambassadors from institutions across India participating.

“IIM Sambalpur, known for its focus on action-oriented research and experiential learning, actively supports this initiative, providing a platform to nurture entrepreneurial mindsets and creative problem-solving skills,” the press release said.

The celebration also included an exhibition featuring over 70 startups, showcasing products ranging from tech innovations to healthcare solutions, further demonstrating the thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem at IIM Sambalpur. “The diverse range of offerings highlighted the thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem at IIM Sambalpur, further cementing its status as a hub for innovation and business education,” the release added.
