Hardik Pandya, India’s star all-rounder, has been excluded from the remainder of the World Cup due to a serious setback in his team’s campaign. When he was bowling for India against Bangladesh in Pune, the 30-year-old sustained a left ankle injury.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced Hardik Pandya has not recovered in time to make the World Cup, which will leave him out of action for the rest of the tournament said in a press release.

India has called up Prasidh Krishna, a promising fast bowler with limited international experience, to fill the void left by Pandya. Krishna, who has played just 19 white-ball matches for India, was last seen on the international stage when he took the prized wicket of David Warner in nine overs against Australia just before the World Cup, giving away 45 runs.

Krishna is competing against the best of Indian pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj for a spot in India’s fast bowling attack.

With the approval of Krishna’s inclusion by the Event Technical Committee, he is now eligible for selection in India’s squad for the crucial World Cup clash against South Africa scheduled for Sunday. Both India and South Africa currently occupy the top two positions in the World Cup standings, making this upcoming match in Kolkata pivotal in determining the leader of the group stage.

The updated Indian squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 includes Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Prasidh Krishna, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav.
