Poonam Pandey, who is well-known for her role on ‘Lock Upp’, explained on Saturday that she staged her death to raise awareness about cervical cancer, despite rampant rumours of her passing and suspicions that it was a PR ploy.

“I am here, alive,” she declared in an Instagram video. I was not claimed by cervical cancer.” Pandey underlined the importance of awareness, stating that her goal was to highlight how cervical cancer is preventable through immunisation and early detection. She gave a link for more information and advised everyone to arm one another with critical awareness.

In a personalized video, Pandey emphasized that while she is alive, countless women have lost their lives to cervical cancer due to a lack of knowledge. She stressed that cervical cancer is preventable through tests and the HPV vaccine.

Pandey’s clarification came after an Instagram post on Friday suggested her death from cervical cancer, a claim also confirmed by her media manager. However, Pandey’s revelation faced backlash on social media, with some criticizing her for using a casual approach to spread awareness. In another video, she apologized for causing distress and explained her intention was to spark a conversation about cervical cancer, a disease that needed urgent attention. Pandey acknowledged the extreme nature of her approach but expressed pride in bringing the spotlight to the silent killer.
