In a significant crackdown on human trafficking, authorities in Ushkara Baramulla have arrested two individuals and rescued four minor girls. The operation, led by the Baramulla Police, uncovered a trafficking network exploiting minors from outside the Union Territory.
Acting on a reliable tip, the police registered FIR No. 173/2024 at Baramulla Police Station and swiftly moved to raid the residence of Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, a local of Ushkura. During the search, conducted under the supervision of a magistrate and female police officers, three minor girls, all identified as Rohingya from Burma, were found and rescued.
Upon interrogation, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat admitted to selling one of the girls to Mehraj Ahmad Tantray, a resident of Kanlibagh. This confession led to a subsequent raid at Tantray’s residence, where another minor girl from the Rohingya community was discovered and rescued. Tantray was also taken into custody.
Both suspects, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat and Mehraj Ahmad Tantray, are now in police custody as investigations continue to track down other individuals involved in this trafficking ring.
This operation underscores the Baramulla Police’s dedication to combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable populations. The police are determined to dismantle the entire network and bring all perpetrators to justice.
