Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced during a question hour session in the Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday that the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act will be amended and made more stringent to eradicate the drug mafia in the state. Sukhu informed the assembly that a blueprint for new provisions to be added to the act is being prepared in consultation with the Union Home Minister.
To prevent corruption at police, excise, and forest check posts in border areas, the government will regularly rotate employees posted at these locations. Responding to a question raised by Congress’ Malender Rajan, Sukhu acknowledged complaints of corruption and said that the practice of repeatedly posting employees at the same place will be done away with.
In the Indora Assembly Constituency, 187 cases were registered under the NDPS Act in the past three years, and 252 accused were arrested, according to Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan. Charge sheets have been filed against 245 accused in 181 cases, and five cases are still under investigation. Property worth Rs 6.95 crore has been confiscated.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Rohit Thakur assured Balbir Verma of the BJP that no school in the hill state will be without teachers. He also revealed that five schools in the Chopal constituency currently have zero enrollment, while eight schools have no teachers.
