So we all get caught in embarrassing situations now and then. If you are like me, it would be even more frequent. I can’t tell you the number of times I have forgotten people’s names, faces and even phone call appointments. So here are some smart tips (I didn’t say ethical) to squeeze your way out of tricky situations, not get fired and save face. Twist the Truth White lies told with good intentions are harmless. And they actually not only benefit you but even the opposite person won’t feel bad about themselves. So, for example you forgot someone’s name. Huge tip – Smile wide and say with confidence ‘I must get your phone number.’
Remove your cell and then ask, ‘please can I have the correct spelling of your name?’ I have done this more than ten times and it always works. Feign a headache You can try anything, even a stomach ache would do. If you are pretend -unwell, very slim chances of anyone bothering you for any explanation in an awkward situation. Infact you might even get sympathy and exemption from what could have been a breaking point. Try honesty Be honest about what you did, own up. Apologise so profusely that the opposite person gets fed up, listening to so many sorry’s. Finally they might just tell you, ‘it’s fine. No problem.’ Compliment the other person If you flatter or praise someone (genuinely) less chances they will be mad at you. I mean if someone tells me I am drop dead gorgeous, can I ever be angry ? Of course not! But make sure you don’t over do this one. You can’t tell a person who is balding that their hair looks so perfect! They might just think that you are poking fun at them and then things may just get more tensed.
Make someone else speak on your behalf If you know you are going to be at the receiving end of wrath, request a friend or sibling or even your kid (if they are old enough) to make that call or go speak first. Chances are the frustration will come out on them and by the time your turn comes, they might simmer down. It’s not fair, but you can make it to them later. And if none of these work, buy them a nice gift or a good meal. After all who doesn’t like presents and yummy food.
