Drinking ample amounts of water is essential for an individual’s health and well-being. It can prevent dehydration, reduce body overheating, lubricate cushion joints, and get rid of body waste. However, the benefits only reflect if the water is clean and hygienic; otherwise, it may also result in several diseases. The World Health Organisation (WHO) states that consuming polluted water can cause the transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, typhoid, and more. Therefore, one must be extremely careful with the type of water they consume in a bid to prevent diarrhoea, acute respiratory disease, and numerous tropical diseases.
Nowadays, several people are consuming RO (Reverse Osmosis) water, which is safer to drink when compared to unfiltered water. We can agree that it removes harmful chemicals, desalinates seawater, and makes it drinkable; however, these factors do not make it a healthier choice. However, today we have the provision of getting healthy water that could cater to our health needs and keep us safe from certain harmful diseases. Thanks to technological advancements, today there is a healthier option in terms of alkaline water, which is different as well as better than regular water.

Alkaline water vs. regular water
Alkaline water can provide potential benefits to the human body that regular water cannot. The advantages include neutralising the acid in the bloodstream, maintaining bone density, and preventing diseases. The main differences between alkaline water and regular water are that alkaline water is basic in nature, has all the minerals that a body requires, and has more health benefits.

pH levels
According to American Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) criteria for water quality, drinking water’s pH should remain between 6.5 and 8.5. Regular water has a pH level between 6.5 and 7, which is potentially drinkable but acidic in nature. Acidic water not only tastes metallic, but heavy metal exposure can cause severe disease and poisoning in both people and animals. When exposed to heavy metals in water, children are more vulnerable to catastrophic ailments such as organ damage, immune system suppression, and shortness of breath. Children and adults may develop behavioural abnormalities, some malignancies, and heart disease as a result of prolonged exposure to these toxic metals. Alkaline water, on the other hand, has a pH level between 8 and 9, which is basic in nature and does not contain any heavy metals, making it a healthier choice for humans.

Mineral content
Our body needs several minerals to sustain its health and keep it functioning properly. For instance, we require Calcium for bone health, heart, nerve, and muscle functions. Our body also needs Magnesium to turn food into energy and Sodium to regulate blood pressure and volume. Moreover, it also needs Potassium for proper muscle function and healthy digestion. Unfortunately, regular water does not contain these minerals. Alkaline water, on the other hand, has a higher negative oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) than ordinary water and contains more alkalizing minerals like calcium and magnesium. ORP is a measure of a water sample’s antioxidant impact. Moreover, in terms of essential minerals, alkaline water has calcium, magnesium, potassium, bicarbonate, and silica. In totality, alkaline water is mineral-rich water that could provide several health benefits.

Health benefits
When compared to regular water, alkaline water has several potential health benefits. Primarily, it improves bone density as it contains bicarbonate elements and is calcium-rich, which results in less bone resorption. Detoxification is one of the key advantages of consuming alkaline water. Furthermore, toxins in the body are removed by alkaline water, which can cause a variety of health issues. Alkaline water consumption also hydrates the body more effectively than ordinary water. It helps patients who are chronically dehydrated by hydrating them and rehydrating them more quickly and effectively than ordinary water. It also possesses anti-inflammatory effects that aid in the treatment of digestive disorders like gastroenteritis, indigestion, and irritable bowel syndrome.

Alkaline water: a better and healthier choice
With the above comparison, we can conclude that alkaline water has more benefits than regular water and should be the primary choice of people who are concerned about the health of themselves and their loved ones. People looking forward to adopting a healthy choice of water have several options today. They can go for alkaline water purifiers that maintain the pH level up to 8.5 to 9.5 and add other essential additives that are beneficial for public health. These cost-efficient water purifiers use cutting-edge technologies to produce mineral-rich alkaline water that is as effective as Kangen RO water. With the implementation of these purifiers at home, in the office, or anywhere else, people can reap several health benefits and make their bodies revert to a natural alkaline state.
