Hottest Day In Delhi, people experiences scorching heat on Tuesday, with temperatures reaching an all-time high on record. In Mungeshpur and Narela, the mercury soared to 49.9°C, while in Najafgarh, it peaked at 49.8°C. Safdarjung, the city’s base observatory, recorded a maximum temperature of 45.8°C, the highest this year.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for heatwave and severe heatwave for Wednesday, with an orange alert for Thursday. Although there’s a slight drop in temperature expected on Thursday, relief may come in the form of very light rain on Friday and Saturday, according to IMD forecasts.
The intense heat is attributed to westerly winds blowing from Haryana and Rajasthan. These dry winds have caused a drop in humidity levels, resulting in a lower heat index compared to previous days.
Hottest Day In Delhi, areas including Pitampura, Pusa, and Jafarpur, recorded severe heatwave conditions on Tuesday, with temperatures eight to nine notches above normal. Gurgaon saw the season’s highest temperature at 47°C, marking the third heatwave day this season.
With temperatures exceeding 42°C, people are at risk of heat stroke, a medical emergency that can lead to central nervous system dysfunction. Doctors warn that extreme dehydration associated with heat stroke can even lead to a brain stroke in severe cases.
Despite the heatwave, the city continues to face poor air quality, with the air quality index (AQI) at 244 on Tuesday, compared to 223 the previous day.
