In southwestern China, authorities disclosed a distressing occurrence at a hospital on Tuesday. The incident unfolded at Zhenxiong County People’s Hospital in Yunnan province, where a knife attack transpired, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives and leaving 21 others wounded. Despite the suspect being identified as a male from a village within the same county, law enforcement has refrained from divulging any apparent motive behind the assault.

A statement released by Zhenxiong police confirmed that the injured victims are presently under medical care. While the community grapples with shock and concern in the aftermath of this unforeseen event, authorities are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack to ascertain clarity and provide reassurance to the public.

According to a witness interviewed by Red Star News, an online publication, he narrowly evaded the attack and noted that among the injured were doctors. Video footage shared by the witness depicted individuals who had sustained injuries, some bleeding and collapsed on the ground, with an elderly person seen rendering aid to another.

Initial media accounts had suggested 23 individuals were harmed, but a statement from the police later clarified that the actual count of injured persons was 21. Additionally, a video circulated by Guizhou Province Television captured the scene as law enforcement escorted a man away from the premises.

Situated approximately 360 kilometers (220 miles) northeast of Kunming, the provincial capital of Yunnan, Zhenxiong County borders Sichuan province.

Incidents involving knife attacks have previously occurred in China, frequently targeting kindergartens. In July of last year, a man wielding a knife claimed the lives of six individuals and injured one more at a kindergarten in Guangdong province, located in the southeast of the country.

Similarly, in 2022, a knife-wielding assailant injured 15 individuals, with six sustaining severe wounds, during an attack at a hospital in Shanghai. Subsequently, he was convicted and sentenced to death last
