A significant revelation has surfaced regarding a security oversight in the protection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Home Ministry has penned a letter to the Punjab government seeking a response.
Sources indicate that the ministry, in this communication, questioned the delay in taking action against responsible officials. They emphasized that if appropriate measures are not taken, they will intervene.
Notably, the committee appointed by the Supreme Court in this case found Punjab’s then DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyaya, Chief Secretary Anirudh Tiwari, and several other IGs and officers of SSP rank guilty, yet no action was initiated against them. Meanwhile, within this context, Punjab Police suspended an SP, 2 DSPs, and 7 other police officers, but no action has been taken against any IPS officer. Consequently, prompting the Central Home Ministry to request a response through this letter.
To clarify, the security lapse in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s protection occurred on January 5, 2022, while he was en route to Hussainiwala in Ferozpur. His convoy had to halt, and subsequently, following obstruction by protestors, the convoy made a U-turn. The Prime Minister was stranded on the flyover for approximately 20 minutes during this incident. This incident took place during the tenure of Congress in Punjab.
