Actor Bradley Whitford is set to appear in the third season of the Netflix political drama The Diplomat.

According to Variety, Whitford will play the husband of Vice President Grace Penn, a character portrayed by fellow West Wing star Allison Janney. At the end of Season 2 of The Diplomat, President William Rayburn (Michael McKean) dies unexpectedly, leading to Penn becoming the US President and her husband taking on the role of First Gentleman.

Fans of The West Wing will be excited to see Janney and Whitford reunited, as the pair starred together on the NBC political drama during its seven-season run. Janney played Press Secretary CJ Cregg, while Whitford portrayed White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman.

Whitford won one of his three Emmy Awards for his work on The West Wing and received the other two for Transparent on Amazon and The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu. His other TV credits include Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Valley of the Boom, and most recently, The Madness. In film, Whitford is known for his roles in Get Out, Tick, Tick… Boom!, and Saving Mr. Banks.

Whitford is represented by Gersh, Greenlight Management, and Peikoff Mahan.

The Diplomat was renewed for a third season ahead of the premiere of Season 2. Season 3 is currently in production.

Keri Russell leads the cast, with Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh also starring. Deborah Cahn, who created the series, serves as showrunner and executive producer. Russell also executive produces in addition to starring. Janice Williams and Alex Graves are also executive producers, as reported by Variety.
