Nikki Glaser Faces Backlash For Diddy Joke At Golden Globes

The host of the 82nd Annual Golden Globes, comedian Nikki Glaser, joked about the alleged wrongdoing of musician Sean “Diddy” Combs. Glaser made reference to Diddy’s notorious “freak-offs” in her introductory monologue, making light of the fact that police supposedly discovered “1,000 bottles of baby oil” during a raid on his estate. “This year, there’s no baby oil, just lots of olive oil,” she said, referring to the after-party after the event. That’s not quite the same as a “Stanley Tucci freak-off.”

Ariel Mitchell, a lawyer representing many of the women who have come forward to claim that Diddy assaulted them, criticized the joke. Mitchell chastised Glaser in an interview with The Daily Beast for exploiting the joke to make fun of her. “Ms. Glaser should be ashamed of herself,” Mitchell remarked, highlighting the hurt the joke caused her clients. She also made fun of the Golden Globes, claiming that the show’s viewership are declining due to its offensive content, despite the fact that attendance at the event has reportedly increased since the previous year.

Diddy, 54, is scheduled to appear in court in May on counts of sex trafficking and racketeering. Although there are no accusations of sexual misconduct involving kids in his criminal indictment, he is also facing a number of civil claims. Diddy has refuted every accusation, and his attorneys have insisted on his innocence.

Many members of the online community criticised Glaser for the offensive joke, which caused division in the community. The humour and its impact on victims of sexual assault were denounced by critics on X and other social media sites. Comments such as “Jokes about mass sexual assault and trafficking are never funny” and human “Something feels off about a room of celebrities laughing at a joke about such serious allegations.” Although Glaser’s monologue was praised for its general incisiveness, many found the Diddy reference to be off-putting.
