Actor Robert Pattinson, director Bong Joon-Ho, and the cast of Mickey 17 attended the German premiere of their highly anticipated film at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival. During the event, Pattinson praised filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho, referring to him as his “master” and reflecting on his experience working with him, according to Deadline.
The film, an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s 2022 sci-fi novel Mickey 7, follows a man in the near future who takes on the role of an “expendable” worker—someone assigned to perilous missions, with the ability to be regenerated if he dies, Deadline reported.
Pattinson stars in the film alongside Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
Speaking at a press conference during the Berlin Film Festival, Pattinson described working with Bong as an “incredible” experience, calling him “a master.”
“Bong is a Mount Rushmore director for me,” he remarked, as quoted by Deadline.
Adding to the conversation, Oscar nominee Toni Collette revealed that for the first time in her career, she agreed to a film before even reading the script.
Mickey 17 marks Bong Joon-Ho’s return to feature films following his Oscar-winning Parasite (2019). As per Deadline, the director shared his passion for filmmaking and his ambition to explore multiple genres.
“I want to make films of all genres. That’s my life goal… even if I’m a little scared of musicals,” Bong stated. He further elaborated on his creative process, saying, “I draw my inspiration from many sources. Even looking at your faces, I get many ideas. As a writer-director, I’m constantly writing in my head.”
Mickey 17 is set for a theatrical release in Korea on February 28, followed by a U.S. release by Warner Bros. on March 7.
Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson confirmed that filming for The Batman Part II will commence at the end of 2025. Though he refrained from revealing any plot details, he assured fans that the sequel is going to be “cool,” Deadline reported.
Discussing the film’s delay, Pattinson acknowledged, “It’s a while… everything feels so long ago because Covid just erased three years.”
His statement follows Warner Bros.’ decision to push the release date of The Batman Part II from October 2, 2026, to October 1, 2027. Director Matt Reeves had previously confirmed at the Golden Globes that filming is expected to begin sometime in 2025, as per the outlet.
