Jack O’Connell has officially joined the cast of the latest installment in the Godzilla-King Kong creature feature franchise.

The sequel will be directed by Grant Sputore, known for helming I Am Mother, with a screenplay by Dave Callaham.

O’Connell will star alongside Kaitlyn Dever and Dan Stevens, who is set to reprise his role as veterinarian Trapper Beasley from last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the highest-grossing film in the franchise to date, as reported by Deadline.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the upcoming movie will introduce several new human characters, alongside the Titans Godzilla and Kong, as they confront a devastating, world-ending threat, according to the outlet.

Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise, now a decade old, began with 2014’s Godzilla and includes Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Netflix’s animated spin-off Skull Island, and the Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Distributed by Warner Bros, the films have collectively grossed over $2.5 billion worldwide, as noted by Deadline.

O’Connell has earned critical acclaim for his performances in independent films such as Starred Up (2013) and ’71 (2014), earning nominations at the British Independent Film Awards. He also starred in Unbroken (2014), which led to him receiving the BAFTA Rising Star Award. His other notable works include the thriller Money Monster (2016), the biographical drama Trial by Fire (2018), The North Water (2021), SAS: Rogue Heroes (2022–2025), and the Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black (2024).

Up next, he will appear in Sinners, a supernatural horror film written and directed by Ryan Coogler, as well as 28 Years Later, a post-apocalyptic horror movie produced and directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland. He is also set to star in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Garland, which will serve as a sequel to 28 Years Later (2025) and the fourth installment in the 28 Days Later film series.
