Don Lemon spoke on Kanye West’s recent statements following his insulting post towards the CNN anchor on social media. Speaking at the 14th Annual NFL Honors, the former CNN host responded to West, who had said he was a ‘koon’ and accused Lemon of spreading false rumors that the rapper and his new wife, Bianca Censori, were removed from the Grammys.

He was disappointed with the insult, an outlet reports, saying, “He got on social media and he called me [a koon], I was like, ‘C’mon man, we’re both black men. You know what that word means in our community. Have some respect.'”

West had posted a now-deleted Instagram photo of Lemon, blaming him for starting the rumor and writing, “This the goofball that started the rumor that me and my wife got kicked out the Grammies [sic]. 3 decades of innovating music and they always KOONS like this.”

To that, Lemon explained he only gave what he was provided with and didn’t try to make the news. He could also remember one other occasion he had with West. According to him, he tried to interview the rapper a day before the Grammys and was rejected. “When I tried to interview him, he goes, ‘I’m trying to focus. No interviews,'” Lemon remembered.

Commenting on Censori’s daring red-carpet look at the Grammys, where she wore a sheer outfit, Lemon noted, “Kanye’s a master marketer. He’s a master promoter, so I’m surprised but not surprised. I’m not surprised that he pulled a stunt. I’m just surprised that there was a lot of nudity involved.”
