‘Shogun’ Actress Anna Sawai takes home Best Actress at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, held on Sunday, as she received another big honor after winning awards at the Golden Globe and Emmy Awards.
FX historical drama ‘Shogun’ also won Best Ensemble in a Drama TV Series award. Anna was fully emotional on stage and grateful to her co-stars and fans, labeling it a happy experience as she accepted her success.
Win of Anna Sawai
In her passionate acceptance speech, the ‘Shogun’ actress expressed, “Thank you so much. I’m very happy but I’m also kind of sad because this is probably the last time I’m able to celebrate the work with you guys.” She offered thanks to the Shogun team, continuing, “I love you, the entire FX team. Thank you for believing in me always.”
This win represents a landmark year for Sawai, who became the first Asian woman to receive the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2024. She was the sole first-time nominee in her category for the SAG Awards and was up against industry legends Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Kathy Bates (Matlock), Keri Russell (The Diplomat), and Allison Janney (The Diplomat).
Looking back at her show, Sawai said, “Last year when this show was released, the only thing I desired was for viewers to watch it. So this has been way beyond my imagination. Thank you so much.”
Fans Reaction
The internet exploded in praise for the actress, as fans rejoiced at her richly deserved win. “Yaaas queen! Well deserved, Anna Sawai!,” tweeted one fan, while another added, “Anna definitely deserves all the awards.” Social media overflowed with congratulations, a testament to the vast popularity of her work in Shogun.
