A 40-year-old individual with a significant criminal history launched a violent assault against a team of Mumbai police officers who were attempting to apprehend him in connection with a molestation case, according to an official statement.
In response to received information, a contingent of police officers from the Borivali police station descended on Ratnabai Chawl on Tuesday with the intention of apprehending Mahesh Mohan Shetty, also known as Kolu. Shetty had been implicated in an alleged molestation case from the previous year.
However, Shetty’s response was combative as he violently kicked Constable Swapnil Sharad Pawar and attacked him with a stone, causing a disturbance in the vicinity, the official detailed. The police team ultimately managed to subdue Shetty and transport him to the Borivali police station.
A criminal case was subsequently registered against Shetty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 353, which pertains to assaulting or using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their duties. Additionally, charges under the Mumbai Police Act were also applied.
The accused, Mahesh Mohan Shetty, has been embroiled in numerous serious criminal cases, including kidnapping and rape. In a prior incident, he had been banned from entering zones under the jurisdiction of Mumbai police’s zone-11, encompassing areas such as Goregaon, Borivali, and Kandivali, as reported by the official.
