In a tragic incident on Sunday, ten members of a family from Himachal Pradesh drowned after their SUV was swept away by a sudden flood near Jejon town in the Mahilpur block of Hoshiarpur district, Punjab. The family was traveling to Nawanshahr to attend a wedding when their vehicle encountered the floodwaters of a choe.
The SUV, carrying 11 people, became stuck in the mud as it crossed the Himachal-Punjab border and was subsequently swept away by the strong current. Among those in the vehicle were Deepak Bhatia from Dehra near Mehatpur in Una district, Himachal Pradesh, along with his parents, Surjeet Bhatia and Paramjeet Kaur, his uncle Sarup Chand, aunts Bandar and Shino, daughters Bhavna (18) and Anku (20), son Harmeet (12), and the driver.
Sadly, ten occupants drowned, with only the driver managing to survive. Local authorities and police quickly arrived at the scene to manage the aftermath and carry out rescue and recovery operations.
