More than 2,500 police officers have been assigned to manage security for the India-Bangladesh T20 match in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, this Sunday, according to an official source.

The significant police presence is in response to a planned shutdown by right-wing groups protesting against alleged violence against Hindus in Bangladesh following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in August.

The official also noted that both hotels housing the teams since Wednesday are under strict security measures.

“On the day of the match, personnel will be deployed from 2 p.m. and remain on duty until spectators have safely returned home. With prohibitory orders in place, monitoring has been intensified, including surveillance of social media,” Gwalior Zone Inspector General of Police Arvind Saxena told PTI.

On Thursday, the district magistrate issued prohibitory orders banning protests and the circulation of inflammatory content, particularly on social media, to maintain order and ensure a peaceful match. These orders will remain in effect until October 7.

The game is scheduled at the newly constructed Madhavrao Scindia International Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 30,000.
