Heavy rains lashing Mumbai overnight led to waterlogging in many streets, low-lying areas and suburbs.

Rains across the city picked up late on Tuesday evening due to which public transport services were hit and normal life was affected in the financial capital.

Traffic on the roads and highway have also been badly affected.

The city has been witnessing heavy rains since Tuesday. The IMD had also predicted heavy rainfall earlier.

The rainfall has majorly affected the low-lying areas in Sion, Wadala and Dadar.

Traffic jams have also been reported from the areas in suburbs where incessant rainfall and waterlogging took place.

Areas in south Mumbai as well as western and northern suburbs like Andheri, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Malad and Borivali have seen heavy downpour.

Central Railway has suspended suburban services due to continuous rains and waterlogging at Sion, Kurla.

The Regional Meteorological Centre said that people living in vulnerable places may take caution and also warned about traffic disruption and power cuts. The weather office has also warned of the possible danger in old buildings and unmaintained structures.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Mumbai and Thane warning of very heavy rains.
