As northern India continues to swelter in the heat, the country has reported over 40,000 cases of suspected heatstroke this summer. So far, this ongoing heatwave has taken the lives of over 100 people across India.
As per Health ministry official, around 40,000 cases of heatstroke and 110 casualties were recorded between March 1 and June 18.
Due to temperatures significantly higher than usual both day and night in northwestern India, hospitals are seeing a rise in admissions due to heat-related issues.
In May, the central state of India, Madhya Pradesh has reported 5,200 cases related to heatstroke. While in previous month, Rajasthan recorded 4,300 cases.
Moreover, the national capital Delhi and Noida, have respectively recorded 20 and 14 deaths.
As a result, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, assessed the situation nationwide and had a discussion with senior officials from the Health Ministry about hospitals readiness to deal with increased cases of Heatwave.
‘Union Health Minister JP Nadda reviewed the heatwave situation across the country and preparedness of hospitals to deal with heatwave with senior officials of the Health Ministry, here today.’ announced press release.
At the meeting, JP Nadda ordered for the establishment of heatwave units in central government hospital.
In contrast, Assam continues to witness Floods and landslides, impacting 1.61 lakh people from 15 districts of the state. On Tuesday night, around 6 casualties were reported from northeastern state.
Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted above normal temperatures for this month. According to officials, Indian cities have now become ‘heat traps’ due to uneven growth.
