However, Hazlewood’s recovery has been quicker than anticipated. On Monday, he was seen bowling at full intensity during a session at the Adelaide Oval. Journalists covering the series reported that Hazlewood bowled two successful spells and appeared satisfied with his progress.
This rapid recovery is a major boost for Australia. After their 10-wicket win in Adelaide, the team will benefit significantly if Hazlewood is available for the third Test in Brisbane. His return will strengthen the Australian attack and add depth to their bowling lineup.
While Scott Boland impressed with his performance in Adelaide, former captain Ricky Ponting still prefers Hazlewood in the playing XI. Ponting stated, “Even though Boland has bowled brilliantly, I would still prefer Hazlewood in the playing XI for Brisbane.” This preference highlights the value Hazlewood brings to the team, particularly in Brisbane.
Moreover, Hazlewood has an excellent track record at the Gabba. In eight Tests at this venue, he has taken 37 wickets at an average of 23.75, including two five-wicket hauls. Given his success in Brisbane, his return could prove crucial, especially after dismissing Virat Kohli in the Perth Test.
Following the Adelaide win, Australia’s captain Pat Cummins provided an update on Hazlewood. He said, “(Josh Hazlewood) will have to bowl tomorrow, so he’s all on track. He will bowl tomorrow and then we will have to assess from there. But yeah, it’s all gone to plan so far.” Cummins expressed confidence that Hazlewood would be ready for Brisbane, adding, “We are fairly confident that he will be alright for Brisbane, and we’ll know more in the next couple of days.”
In the meantime, Scott Boland stepped up in Hazlewood’s absence. He took five wickets in Adelaide, including the prized wicket of Virat Kohli in the second innings. Although Boland’s performance was impressive, Hazlewood’s return will provide a significant boost to the Australian bowling attack.
