Speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, Gian Chand Gupta, has expressed concern over the attire of Congress MLA Neeraj Sharma from Faridabad NIT. He stated that a legislator should maintain dignity, and such actions of changing or removing clothes are not appropriate. It should be noted that MLA Neeraj Sharma had written a letter to the Legislative Assembly Speaker requesting permission to attend wearing his traditional attire, but the Speaker explicitly denied the request.
Punjab Kesari reported that the Speaker mentioned that entry into the Legislative Assembly would not be allowed with such attire. He further stated that during the budget session, legislators will be allowed entry only in appropriate clothing. Drawing an example from the IAS Association, the Speaker mentioned that during a protest in the Legislative Assembly, all IAS officers were asked to leave at that time.
Regarding the incident of MLA Neeraj Sharma removing clothes at NIT Faridabad, he remarked that a legislator should uphold dignity, and such actions are not suitable. It is worth mentioning that earlier, MLA Neeraj Sharma, wearing a traditional outfit representing the issues of his constituency in NIT 86, had faced altercations with the police at the Republic Day event. Despite showing a valid invitation letter, the police prevented him from entering.
In a previous instance on January 17, Neeraj Sharma had draped a two-yard cloth resembling a shroud in Chandigarh. The cloth had images depicting the public issues of the legislator. A few days ago, someone had defaced his poster with black ink. He had filed a complaint with the police in this regard.
