The Haryana government has allocated nearly Rs 77 crore for the development of 20 backward blocks in eight districts during the first phase of the Swaranjayanti Khand Utthan Yojana (SKUY) in the current financial year. The state-level empowered committee, chaired by Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal, approved the budget for the scheme.
According to an official statement, the funds will supplement and converge with the existing development inflows into the identified blocks. The objective of the scheme is to identify underdeveloped blocks and bridge the gaps in local infrastructure and development that cannot be made through existing schemes. The SKUY also aims to improve livelihood opportunities through skill development programmes in convergence with other schemes and provide design and marketing support in convergence with other departments.
The scheme will ensure adequate funds to these identified blocks through special components in the existing schemes.
The chief secretary has directed officers to expand the scope of the scheme’s objective and issue detailed guidelines to the field officers for proper implementation in a time-bound manner.
The initiative is a significant step towards the development of backward areas in Haryana and will create new opportunities for the people in these areas.
