Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya attended the convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Sector-23 on Tuesday as the chief guest and awarded degrees to 49 graduating students. Bandaru Dattatreya congratulated all the students and wished them a bright future.
The Governor expressed his happiness at witnessing the achievements of the institute in such a short time. He mentioned that NIFT provides students with the highest standards of learning experience in the field of fashion, encouraging a remarkably creative student body to draw inspiration from the textiles and crafts of India while focusing on emerging global trends related to the industry.
He further highlighted that NIFT has successfully bridged the gap between craft, education, and industry in the field of fashion. NIFT not only believes in classroom teaching but also provides better opportunities for students to connect with the crafts of the state and region. The institute regularly hosts artisans, industry stalwarts, and field experts for the benefit of students and faculty. The Governor emphasized that NIFT is making great strides in emerging areas such as Sensory and Virtual Experience Design, Artificial Intelligence in Fashion, Augmented and Virtual Reality, providing the best training available to students as part of the curriculum.
Bandaru Dattatreya commended the commendable efforts of all, ensuring that the students of the institute remain at the forefront of fashion education. He congratulated four NIFT girl students selected for semester exchange programs in the world’s best institutes in Milan and New York.
He expressed great pride that the graduating batch secured placements in multinational companies in Chandigarh, Bangalore, Gurgaon, and Delhi, with one student securing a package of Rs. 18 lakhs. Some students have also started their own ventures, bridging the gap between the craft and fashion industries in India. Additionally, some students have been selected for further higher education abroad.
Out of the 49 students, 30 were from the Design Space department, and 19 were from the Fashion Management department. The Governor extended hearty congratulations and best wishes to Amandeep Singh Grover and all the students who have brought glory to the institute through their achievements.
He expressed joy at the fact that the daughters of the state are making a name for themselves globally. NIFT, offering 20 percent of its seats to students domiciled in Haryana, also provides scholarships to deserving candidates.
While sharing his experiences, the Governor said that we should draw inspiration from former President and scientist A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who used to spend 90 percent of his earnings on the education and upliftment of poor children.
Addressing the students, he urged them to become job creators rather than job seekers. The intention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is for the people of India to use their skills, set up small industrial units, and become self-employed, providing opportunities for others to work in their self-employment, contributing towards nation-building. The Government of India and State Governments are also providing loan facilities and subsidies for self-employment.
Bandaru Dattatreya emphasized not underestimating the talent of women, stating they have great potential to lead on multiple fronts with skill, art, management, concentration, discipline, and determination.
He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken many initiatives in the field of women empowerment, including the establishment of the Women Entrepreneurship Platform under NITI Aayog. The National Education Policy-2020 also prioritizes gender equality for quality education to all students, with special emphasis on socially and economically deprived sections.
