The Haryana government has declared winter vacations for all government and private schools in the state, which will last from January 1 to January 15, 2024. The decision is intended to ensure students’ safety and well-being as temperatures are expected to drop. Schools will reopen on January 16, 2024, according to an official circular issued by the state administration.

The announcement was conveyed through the official Twitter handle of the Haryana Chief Minister’s office, emphasizing the government’s proactive approach in response to the increasing cold conditions. The circular issued by the state administration urged all district education officers, district elementary education officers, and school principals to strictly adhere to the guidelines set by the Haryana government during this period.

The recent weather observations by the India Meteorological Department reported minimum temperatures ranging from 4–8 °C across most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. In light of the cold wave forecast, the decision to implement winter vacations aligns with the government’s commitment to safeguarding the health and comfort of students.

The Indian Meteorological Department predicts a modest rise of about 2°C in minimum temperatures over the next 24 hours. Additionally, dense fog conditions are expected in the morning hours in isolated pockets of Haryana on the 24th and 25th of December. The proactive measure taken by the Haryana government reflects a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students during adverse weather conditions.
