Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the people of Haryana on Thursday after the state achieved 100 percent rail electrification, marking a significant milestone for the Indian Railways network. In a retweet quote of Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s tweet, PM Modi praised the achievement, saying that the state of Haryana will benefit from this accomplishment.
The Railways Minister had earlier announced on Twitter on Wednesday that the electrification process had been completed in the state. The Ministry of Railways also released a statement on March 29, outlining the benefits that Haryana and the Indian Railways would reap from the accomplishment. The electrification of the 1,701 km broad gauge railway network in Haryana will result in a saving of approximately 2.5 times the cost of line haul, heavier haulage capacity, increased sectional capacity, reduced operating and maintenance costs of electric locos, energy-efficient and eco-friendly transportation with reduced dependence on imported crude oil, and saving foreign exchange, the statement said.
Furthermore, the Railways policy of a 100% electrified network will now sanction the new broad gauge network along with electrification, the statement added.
This achievement is a step towards the Indian Railways’ goal of achieving 100% electrification of its network, which is expected to bring numerous benefits in terms of sustainability and efficiency.
