Hardik Patel, who recently quit the Congress, is all set to join BJP on Thursday, upsetting many political equations in Gujarat. He will join the BJP in presence of the Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the state president C R Patil, sources said The Daily Gurdian Review.
The high-profile Patidar leader, who started his political career in 2019 with the Congress, quit the party on May 18.
Those familiar with the development believe that Hardik is expected to make a difference in as many as 50 assembly seats in the state because of his huge influence in the patidar community. Analysts say that his presence will have impact in 30 seats in Saurashtra, and 20 seats in North Gujarat and South Gujarat where patidar community is the deciding factor.
While leaving, Hardik termed the Congress as non-serious and said its top leaders were distracted by their mobile phones and Gujarat Congress leaders were more interested in arranging chicken sandwiches for them.
He also attacked former Congress President Rahul Gandhi not taking any action against the leaders who was harassing him. “I am being harassed so much that I feel bad now,” he said, adding that Gujarat Congress leaders wanted me to leave the party. “I am saddened because I have told Rahul Gandhi about this situation many times, but no action has been taken against him by the Gujarat Congress leaders,” he said.
