On the auspicious occasion of Ugadi, marking the Telugu New Year, individuals throughout the southern regions of India expressed their heartfelt wishes and greetings to loved ones through various social media and messaging platforms.

Ugadi, also known as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, is a significant festival celebrated with great enthusiasm in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and certain parts of Tamil Nadu.

Everywhere, on April 9, people are celebrating Gudi Padwa, the traditional new year. In general, residents in Maharashtra, Goa, and the Konkan region celebrate Gudi Padwa, which marks the arrival of spring and longer days. The Marathi New Year has begun, as indicated by it.

Like Gudi Padwa, the term “Ugadi,” also referred to as Yugadi, originates from the combination of two words: “adi” signifying a new beginning, and “yug” representing an era. Essentially, Yugadi translates to “new beginning” and symbolizes the Hindu New Year. It marks the inception of the Hindu calendar, as it is believed to be the day of creation by Brahma. This year, the auspicious festival falls on Tuesday, April 9th, celebrated with grandeur and zeal. While it holds special importance for Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, it is celebrated as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra and Goa, and as Chaitra Navratri in other states.

With banks and offices closed in regions observing Ugadi, families seize the opportunity to spend quality time together, exchanging gifts, and engaging in cultural events to commemorate this significant occasion.

Ugadi celebrations transcend geographical boundaries, fostering a sense of unity among people across the southern states as they collectively celebrate their cultural heritage.

Throughout the day, streets come alive with colorful decorations, resonant traditional melodies, and the joyous laughter of families and friends. The spirit of Ugadi serves as a poignant reminder of the rich cultural diversity and unity that define the southern states of India.
