A Karol Bagh boy who became a household name after playing iconic comic roles like Pappu Pager, Chanda Mama, Calendar and Mutthu Swamy has left the world with his fondest memories. Late actor Satish Kaushik is well known for his comic timing and super-hit movies like Mr. India and Sajan Chale Sasural. Satish Kaushik made his debut in 1983 with the classic film ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’.
However, the film that made him a star was Anil Kapoor and Sridevi’s film Mr India, in which he played the role of the cook, Calendar. His inimitable dialogues like “Aye tamatar ke aakhri daane, aye amavas ke chamakte chaand” and “Hamara father north Indian, hamara mother south Indian, isliye hum complete Indian” became superhit.
Satish Kaushik delivered these lines from two well-known David Dhawan movies. Any of the many humorous actors that appeared in Dhawan films, including Govinda, Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Satish Shah, Johnny Lever, and others, might have easily been used to deliver them. Yet what made those lines memorable was Kaushik’s entire dedication to the broad comedy needed to pull off the cheesy lines, as well as his cheerful self-awareness of the genre.
The fact that Kaushik was able to broaden his schedule so quickly set him apart from the other well-known comics he collaborated with. Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993), which also starred Anil-Sridevi and was produced by Boney Kapoor, was then the most costly movie ever made in Bollywood. He went from being an assistant director to taking the helm right away. A full ten years later, Kaushik’s direction of Salman Khan’s “Tere Naam” (2003), whose enormous popularity gave the actor a fresh lease on life in Bollywood, despite the fact that it had become one of the most expensive failures in Bollywood history.
In the last few years, with the growth of web series, Kaushik was finally receiving the roles he deserved: the foul-mouthed moneybag Manu Mundra in Hansal Mehta’s ‘Scam 92’ was one example. Although it’s not a major role, the avarice and cruelty he gives to his character make it stand out. The best parts of his recent performances in “Sharmaji Namkeen,” “Chhatriwali,” and “Thar” were that they were all so drastically different from one another. You ponder whether there would have been many more opportunities for him to demonstrate his versatility in such roles.

His blockbuster pairing with Govinda
Satish’s pairing with actor Govinda was superhit and the duo always dished out hilarious content in their comedy hits like ‘Sajan Chale Sasural’, ‘Rajaji’, ‘Hadh Kar Di Aapne’ and ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ to name a few. After the demise of the legendary actor, Govinda expressed his grief and wrote, “It feels very, very sad. May God bless his soul and may he rest in peace. Bahut dukh hua to know that my Sajan Chale Sasural’s Mutthu and Pappu Pager of Deewana Mastana, Sharafat Ali from Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is no more.”

Friendship with Anupam Kher and Anil Kapoor
Satish Kaushik’s friendship with actor Anupam Kher and Anil Kapoor was nothing less than a dream. Anupam came to know about Satish Kaushik’s death at 2 am and shared this news on Twitter at 5:30 in the morning. Meanwhile, he also told during a media interaction that Anil Kapoor, who is currently out of India, is devastated by the news. Anil has now expressed his deep sorrow in a social media post.
He shared a series of pictures from different phases of their lives and wrote, “The Laurels of the industry have lost their Hardy…the Three Musketeers have lost the most talented, generous and loving Musketeer and I have lost my younger brother…gone too soon…I love you Satish.”
Anupam Kher wrote, “I know “death is the ultimate truth of this world!” But I never thought in my dreams that I would write this thing about my best friend #SatishKaushik while alive. Such a sudden full stop on a friendship of 45 years!! Life will NEVER be the same without you SATISH! Om Shanti!”
Actor Salman Khan also shared a throwback picture and wrote a heartfelt note. The caption reads, “Always loved cared n respected him n shall always remember him for the man that he was. May his soul rest in peace n strength to family n loved ones. .” Akshay Kumar tweeted, “Chanda Mama is gone. Deeply saddened to hear about Satish Kaushik ji’s demise. Will remember him for the spontaneous laughter he brought to the sets of Mr & Mrs Khiladi. Am sure he’s already making everyone smile in heaven. Om Shanti.”
