The oath was administered by Chief Justice Sheel Nagu of the Punjab-Haryana High Court during a ceremony at the Punjab Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, and various Punjab government ministers.
Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and former Punjab Governor V.P. Singh Badnore were also present as special guests. To ensure smooth traffic flow during the arrival of VIP guests, the Chandigarh Traffic Police issued a special advisory.
Prior to the swearing-in, Kataria visited a Shiva temple in Sector 8C, where he offered prayers and performed rituals under the guidance of the temple priest.
During his temple visit, Kataria was greeted by Chandigarh Congress President Harmohinder Singh Lucky, who presented him with a bouquet and extended his welcome. Lucky, along with members of the temple committee, honoured Kataria.
In addition to his role as the Governor of Punjab, Kataria will assume the responsibility of Administrator of Chandigarh. Kataria arrived in Chandigarh on Tuesday evening and was welcomed at the airport by Punjab government ministers and Chandigarh officials. Upon reaching the Punjab Raj Bhavan, he was given a Guard of Honor by the Punjab Police.

Gulab Chand Kataria is a senior leader of the BJP from Udaipur, Rajasthan. He was first elected as an MLA from Udaipur in 1977 and has been re-elected multiple times since. In 1998, he won an election from Badi Sadri.
Throughout his political career in Rajasthan, Kataria has held several key positions, including Minister of Education, PWD Minister, and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister. He has also served twice as Home Minister. In 2023, Kataria was appointed as the 31st Governor of Assam. Now, he has been appointed as the 30th Governor of Punjab, with his appointment made official by the President on July 27.
