Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, a high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani around how to organise examinations for class 12 students this year. As per the decision taken, this year’s class 12 board examinations, conducted by Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, will be held from Thursday, 1 July, in the usual manner. An important decision has been taken to conduct class 12 board examinations with strict adherence to Covid-19 SOPs.

Sharing details, Minister of Education Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and Minister of State for Education Vibhavari Dave said that 6.83 lakh students from the class 12 science stream and 5.43 lakh students from the general stream are all set to appear in this examination.

He said that the Chief Minister had instructed the Education Department at this meeting to conduct the board examinations of class 12, which are important for shaping the future careers of the students of the state, with strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols in these special circumstances of Covid-19 transition. The Education Minister further said that this examination will be conducted every year according to the established system of Science Stream Part-1 with 50 marks Multiple Choice Type (MCQ) OMR method and Part-2 Descriptive Written 50 Marks Examination for three hours.

Similarly, according to the established system every year in class 12 general stream, a three-hour examination in descriptive written form of 100 marks will be conducted. The education department will also ensure that students sitting for the exams maintain social distancing, use masks compulsorily and also adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines including sanitisers and thermal guns at the examination centres, added Chudasama.

The Education Minister also said that CM Rupani had made a persuasive suggestion at the meeting that the entire examination system should be set up with the concern that Covid-19 should not spread among the students and their future should not be ruined. Accordingly, the Chief Minister has taken a student-friendly decision to increase the number of examination centres during these difficult times. The Education Minister said that the examination for repeater students of class 10 will be conducted in the same manner.
