Amid Covid-19, the Gujarat government is likely to consider reopening schools only after Diwali. The situation of the pandemic will be reviewed after Diwali and only then the government will make a decision, said a senior official.
However, the sources told The Daily Guardian that the state government is of the view that the schools should be reopened not before December.
According to experts, the transmission of Covid-19 is expected to increase in winter. The winter has almost set in and a close watch is being kept on the coronavirus cases in this season. Therefore, the government will review the situation after Diwali in view of the data available by then, and a decision whether to reopen schools or not will be taken accordingly.
According to sources, the opinion of parents and administrators will also be sought in this regard. It is also possible that a vaccine may be available to fight the coronavirus by December. Therefore, it is expected that the state government may go for reopening schools only in December.
Due to the Covid-19, it was earlier decided to close all schools, colleges, educational institutions in Gujarat from March 15 for two weeks from March 16 to March 29.
