Reportedly, a Gujarat police constable and his wife committed suicide in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, along with their infant.

According to police, the constable, who was assigned to a police station in the city, was reported to have sent a lengthy message to his friends and colleagues, recalling his time with friends and his parents.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Inspector N R Vaghela of the Sola police station said the couple appeared to have jumped from the 12th floor of their Ahmedabad apartment building.

According to some residents, the wife was the first to jump, and the man followed her within 10 seconds with their daughter, who was just over two years old.

“There is a difference of barely 10 seconds between the falls. Forensic experts have said nobody was pushed. It is a case of suicide as per the investigations so far and we are trying to find out the reason for taking such an extreme step,” said Vaghela.

Inspector Vaghela stated that they have yet to gain access to the constable’s phone in order to confirm that he did indeed send the note.

Before concluding the message, the constable expressed his delight that his colleagues will benefit from the grade pay.

Following the protests, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel approved a 550 crore annual fund for the salary hike of state police personnel about three weeks ago.

The bodies will be handed over to the family for final rites in their native village in the state’s Bhavnagar district, according to police.
