To entrench sustainability in the daily lives of people with the motive of helping them make informed decisions, a summit is organized by the GRIHA Council based on the theme ‘Empowering Sustainable and Resilient Communities,’ focusing on the role of communities at the core of climate action. The summit fosters accountability, responsibility, and a sense of ownership. Speaking about what sustainability is, Mr. Sanjay Seth, Senior Director at TERI and Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the GRIHA Council, said, ‘Sustainability is affordability.’
The session will also emphasize restoring harmony in critical geodiversity zones, understanding its impact on micro-level regions, interventions to combat disasters and emerge resilient, the role of influencers in bridging the gap of lack of awareness and understanding among the masses, the role of local economies in regulating and promoting self-sustaining models, circularity, and the lessons from indigenous concepts and practices. Topics covered will include India’s preparedness to combat climate change, incorporating sustainability in education, promoting inclusivity, the acceptability of sustainable market products, and less consumptive practices in the fashion industry.
According to Mr. Seth, “These kinds of summits are important because they show us how we as a country can do better, how we can help society take empowered decisions, and how we can adopt sustainability”.
