To observe and celebrate the Swachhta Pakhwada initiated by the Government of India from January 16 to January 31, 2024, the Office of the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Review Unit-1 of the Income Tax Department, Chandigarh, and the NSS Cell of Government College of Education (GCE) Sector 20 Chandigarh collaborated with the Parijat ECO Club to organize a tree plantation drive at the Government College of Education premises.
During the event, one hundred saplings of Ficus Benjamina, generously contributed by Shri Rahul Mahajan, founder of the Organic Sharing Foundation Chandigarh, were planted. The objective of the tree plantation drive was to foster environmental awareness and promote sustainable practices in society.

Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal of Government College of Education (GCE), extended a warm welcome to the guests. The event witnessed active participation from distinguished organizers, including Dr. G.S. Phani Kishore (Principal Commissioner of Income Tax – Review Unit 1, Chandigarh), Smt. Poonam Rai (Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax), Sh. Anirudh (Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax), and D.S. Chauhan (Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax).

The presence and support of these dignitaries significantly contributed to the success of the event. IRS Officer Trainees, namely Chandni Chauhan, Raj Vikram, Ms. Sonia Kataria, Sandhya Partap Suchiter Sharma, and Umesh Kumar, also actively participated.
Equipped with shovels and saplings, participants planted trees around the college campus. Carefully selected species were chosen to enhance the green cover and biodiversity of the area. Dr. G.S.Phani Kishore expressed gratitude towards the college, participants, and all involved, emphasising the interconnectedness of cleanliness and green initiatives for a sustainable environment.

The tree plantation drive not only beautified the college campus but also contributed to the collective effort to combat climate change and preserve the ecosystem.
Four students of the Eco Club – Shivam Jha, Sachi, Paras, and Amrinder Kaur – were felicitated for their outstanding contributions to promoting green initiatives. The college, along with its collaborators, remains committed to organizing such events in the future, aiming to create a greener and healthier environment for all.
