A senior official announced on Sunday that the government will soon release a legislation for adventure tourism safety that will include provisions for the establishment of state-level safety bodies, penalties for violations, and a mandatory insurance programme. Six states have so far submitted comments on the draught model law known as the Adventure Tourism (Monitoring and Regulation Act), according to a tourism ministry official.
He listed Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Tripura among the regions. “Tourism is a state responsibility, but with this law, the Centre wants to direct the states to follow safety procedures,” he said.
The official described the draught’s various elements, saying that they include the necessary insurance, various provisions for the constitution of the adventure tourism safety section, and penalties for infractions.
