Govt launched 'FAME India' in 2015 to boost adoption of electric, hybrid vehicles

Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Krishan Pal Gurjar, said that the Ministry has formulated Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) scheme in 2015 to promote the adoption of electric/hybrid vehicles in the country. He further added that at present, Phase II of FAME India scheme is being implemented for a period of 5 years with effect from April 1, 2019 with a budgetary allocation of Rs 10,000 core and this focuses on supporting electrification of public and shared transportation and aims to support, through subsidies, 7,090 e-buses, 5 lakh e-3 wheelers, 55, 000 e-4 wheeler passenger cars and 10 lakh e-2 wheelers.

Replying to a question of Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma, Gurjar said that the Centre had approved Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme on May 12, 2021 for manufacturing Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC) in order to promote their manufacturing in the country. The budgetary outlay of the scheme is Rs 18,000 crore.
